The Billingham 550 is a serious Camera bag…Serious in its size as well as the vast amount of gear that it can carry. The 550 will hold multiple camera bodies, as well as accessory lenses, and is certainly large enough to fulfill any photo assignment.

From the outside: Two large front snap pockets ( 6 inches wide x 7 inches tall ) can fit just about any amount of cords, cables, and batteries. Located right behind these two “ dump “ pockets are two zippered compartments, one on each side, and are ideal for putting items that you might not be using every moment…special filters, iPod, car keys, etc. Two large detachable Delta pockets, supplied with the 550, fit on either end of the bag, again, with the ability to carry a large amount of accessories. The rear of the bag has a full-length zip compartment, and can carry a magazine, small notebook computer, plane tickets, notebook, paperback, etc. Two front straps buckle the top protective flap closed, creating an absolutely secure outfit.

The well-padded interior is not removable, as with many of the bags in the Billingham line. A (removable) hard bottom insures that your gear will not make the bag sag when loaded with heavy gear. A long, straight, double zip allows the interior of the bag to be opened from either side. With the supplied Superflex Partitions, any number of configurations for camera body, lenses, flash, and other gear can be realized. One such configuration, using one of the supplied Superflex Partitions, is to lay it “ flat “ that is, horizontal. This enables you to create a shelf, under which you can stow a lens or two that you will not be using for a particular shoot. In addition, you can now insert your camera/lens into the bag, and use this “ shelf “ as a rest for a longer lens attached to a camera body.

The 550 was the first soft camera bag manufactured in Britain. Its continuing success as both a spacious camera bag, as well as sometimes doing double-duty as a travel bag have meant that, apart from some minor improvements, it remains much the same as when it was first introduced. This is a bag that will carry an immense amount of gear, multiple camera bodies, as well as enough lenses, flash, cords, connectors, and accessories to take on safari, on a wedding shoot, around the block, or anywhere in the world.
